Sworn translations, also known as certified translations, are a type of official translation generally required for legal or administrative documents by certain official bodies (courts, local authorities, police, and so on). A sworn translator is a professional who has taken an oath before the relevant authorities (the SPF Justice in the case of Belgium), thereby undertaking to provide faithful and accurate translations of official documents. Sworn translations are often required for birth certificates, marriage certificates, diplomas, contracts, notarial deeds, judgements, etc. These translations are accompanied by an official statement from the translator attesting to the accuracy and integrity of the translation, as well as their stamp* and signature to guarantee their authenticity.

*In Belgium, since 1 December 2022, the official physical stamp has been replaced by the electronic signature of the sworn translator or translator-interpreter.

AlöTrad can provide sworn translations from English into French and from Turkish into French for all types of official documents (birth certificates, marriage certificates, driving licences, diplomas, etc.)

Legalisation is the procedure whereby an official certifies the authenticity of the signature affixed to a document. In the case of a public deed, it also confirms the capacity of the signatory and the identity of the seal or official stamp affixed to the document.

It allows a Belgian document to be used abroad or a foreign document to be used in Belgium. The apostille is a kind of legalisation and may, in some cases (depending on the country of destination), be sufficient.

We advise you to check which requirement corresponds to your situation with the relevant SPF Foreign Affairs department.

AlöTrad can take care of legalising or having legalised your translations only if they have been done by us..

Simple translation (or free translation) is a process whereby a text is translated from a source language into a target language without any particular certification or authentication requirements. Unlike sworn translation, simple translation is not carried out by a sworn translator and is not accompanied by official certification. This type of translation is commonly used for a variety of non-official documents such as articles, blogs, business correspondence, websites, brochures, and so on. Although simple translation does not require any specific legal formalities, it still has to guarantee accuracy and precision in transferring the meaning and intention of the original text into the target language.

AlöTrad provides simple translations from English into French, Turkish into French or Dutch into French, for any type of document, including books, video games, websites, user manuals and more.
